The older I get the more likely I will leave the house with no makeup on unless I’m out for dinner or in the mood to cover the dark circles. To be honest the world is just going to have to deal with my skin as it is. I am no expert in makeup, I just like to play with it, so if I have something important at work or I’m heading to a lazy brunch, this is my routine, which somehow includes a lot of NARS products, but they work for me and give me an almost natural look.
Everything starts with the skin and how you prepare it. I have oily skin but moisturising is key. I don’t care what anyone’s skin type is, moisturising is key to a). a good makeup application and b). preventing premature ageing.
Starting off with a spritz of a hydrating spray (completely optional) but the Mario Badescu Aloe and Rose Water Spray is my fave, followed by liberally applying SPF, this is non negotiable. Anything less than SPF 30 is not acceptable, Mecca Cosmetica has amazing sunscreens in SPF 30 and SPF 50 that are designed to be worn underneath makeup or on their own, so a must have in any makeup purse.
Unfortunately I don’t have an eye cream I’m loving to share at the moment, so it’s back to the drawing board for that one.
I could stop here in my routine, and a lot of days I do, skin is my number one priority. If I’m going for a makeup day, for primer, go with what suits you best. I’m pedantic and will use two, the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer all over and the Becca Ever Matte and Poreless for the T-zone.
Cream and liquid, that’s it. That is all you need for quick makeup, use your fingers and don’t bother fussing with a brush. You’ll be out the door in no-time.
For my face, you cannot go past the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser and the Soft Matte Concealer. Tinted moisturiser is a god-send because it is forgiving. You don’t need an exact match and if it starts wearing away it looks natural. A true miracle.
For bronzer and highlight, the Fenty contour stick is great if you can find a warm tone to suit your skin tone and my tried and true cream highlighter is Mecca Cosmetica’s Lit from Within Enlightening Balm
Set everything with a setting powder, my favourite is Too Faced Born this Way Powder and you are sweet.
Eyes and Lips.
Just blend in either you cream bronzer or highlight onto your lids and wack on as many layers of the new NARS Climax mascara and eyebrow gel, some tinted lip balm and you can run right out the door and not worry about a thing.
